Draftsmens' Congress during the Wrocław Drawing Triennial 2019

Draftsmen's Congress, which will be run by Paweł Althamer at 2019 Wrocław Drawing Triennial, is one of the most important events of this edition of the Triennial. The history of the Congresses, which have been organised in numerous cities all over the world, started in 2012 during the 7th Berlin Biennale, when Paweł Althamer entered the space of St. Elizabeth Church, which was no longer used for liturgical purposes, transforming it into a forum for thought exchange and a manifestation of a free and uncensored artistic expression. In the course of a few weeks, the walls and the floor of the church were covered with dense structures of various notations and small and large drawings appended with commentaries. Later Congresses took place e.g. in Beijing, New York, Turin, Kiev, Gdańsk and Nicosia. Participants in the Draftsmen's Congress in Wrocław will be artists connected with Wrocław BWA, one of the most important art institutions in Poland. The invited artists will be asked to address a complicated issue of why BWA Awangarda has been moved from the city centre to a new location and share their views on a place of culture in modern urban agglomerations. The event will be curated by Paweł Jarodzki, a long-time curator at BWA in Wrocław.

Efekty Paweł Althamer's Draftsmens' Congress during the Wrocław Drawing Triennial 2019 will be of the BWA Awangarda gallery until the future fate of the building is known.
